Temple College offers vocational nursing programs in both Temple and Taylor. The programs lead to a certificate of completion and allow graduates to apply to take the state licensing exam for vocational nursing (LVN). Currently, the programs consist of three consecutive semesters. All coursework is provided within the Nursing Department except BIOL 2404 (Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology) and ITSE 1294 (Special Topics in Computer Science).

Applications may be picked up at the Dell Martin Nursing Education Center on the Temple College main campus, at the Nursing office on the Taylor campus, or at the advising office at the Hutto campus.

Admission Steps
  1. Attend an information session
  2. Take the HESI A2 exam
  3. Complete and return an application
  4. Apply for Blue Card/Declaratory Order from the Texas State Board of Nursing

The Temple College Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.

The Temple College Vocational Nursing Program uses several sites to provide the nursing students with a variety of clinical experiences.

The program maintains clinical arrangements with Scott & White Hospitalthe Central Texas Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Little River Medical Center in Rockdale, and Scott & White University Medical Center in Round Rock.

In addition to the hospital based experiences, the Vocational Nursing students also have opportunities to practice clinical skills in a number of local nursing homes and long-term care facilities as well as outpatient clinics and community health organizations.

All of these experiences help prepare the VN student for the workplace environment.

  • Students in the Temple program have had NCLEX-PN pass rates of more than 90 percent since 2011, with a 100 percent pass rate in 2016.
  • Students in the Taylor program had a 100 percent NCLEX-PN pass rate in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017.
