tte-buckinghamshine_social-1Temple College is hosting a Dec. 8 Texas Tribune event that will feature two newly elected state legislators from Central Texas.

The event, which is titled A Conversation with Sen.-elect Dawn Buckingham and Rep.-elect Hugh Shine will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Pavilion. It is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

Buckingham, a practicing oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon, was elected in November to represent District 24 in the Texas Senate. She has served as vice chairwoman of the State Board for Educator Certification and as the lieutenant governor’s appointee on the Sunset Advisory Commission. Buckingham has also served as a trustee on the Lake Travis Independent School District board.

Shine was elected in November to represent District 55 in the Texas House, a seat he held for two terms nearly 30 years earlier. In the interim, he has served as a financial adviser in Temple. Previously, Shine served as mayor pro tem on the Temple City Commission, and he is a retired U.S. Army Colonel with nearly 30 years of military service.

The discussion will be moderated by Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith and will be followed by an audience Q&A session. The conversation will be livestreamed at beginning at noon, and the video will be available for viewing afterward.
