Two closures on eastbound Loop 363 will affect students, faculty, staff and visitors trying to get to Temple College beginning in the spring 2017 semester.
On Monday, Jan. 16, the Texas Department of Transportation will close the eastbound Loop 363 turnaround to north 1st Street and the southbound 1st Street ramp to eastbound Loop 363.
Both southbound 1st Street traffic needing to head east on Loop 363 and eastbound Loop 363 traffic needing to head north on 1st Street will be detoured to 5th Street. The detours onto 5th Street are expected to mean extra traffic and delays on that street, which is one of the main access points for the college.
“Everyone will need to be very careful as they drive or walk near campus,” said Temple College President Dr. Glenda O. Barron.
Barron noted that the lane closures will impact people trying to go south to the college’s building in Taylor, as well as students and employees who commute from towns to the southeast of Temple, such as Cameron.
“Motorists who normally use 1st Street to get to campus should be sure to allow themselves plenty of extra time,” she said.
The lane closures are part of a multi-year project to construct a new, signalized interchange at the intersection of Loop 363 and 1st Street. TxDOT officials hope the project will be completed in the spring of 2018, weather permitting. Message boards and signs indicating closures and detours will be in place throughout the duration of the project. TxDOT cautions motorists to be alert for construction personnel and equipment in the work areas.
