Two jazz concerts are on tap at Temple College in April.
On Sunday, April 23, a “Jazz Showcase” will be held in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m. The concert will feature performances by the Temple College Jazz Ensemble and the Temple College Faculty Jazz. The groups will play original compositions and arrangements that encompass a variety of styles, including swing, fusion and Latin. Admission is $5.
The Temple College Jazz Ensemble is a 20-piece big band comprised of traditional college students and community members. Temple College Faculty Jazz is comprised of six faculty members from Temple College – Colin Mason (saxophone), Randy Zimmerman (trombone), Ben Irom (piano), Brian Pardo (guitar), Tarik Hassan (bass) and Norm Bergeron (drums).
On Tuesday, April 25, the Temple College Jazz Combos will give a free lunchtime concert at 12:30 p.m. in the Jackson-Graeter Backstage Theatre, which is also located in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. The two ensembles will play traditional and modern pieces from the instrumental jazz repertoire under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Irom.
